The operating theatre director is an expert, a manager and an outstanding organiser who works in a complex, highly technical and busy environment.
As guarantor of the continuity, quality and safety of care, as well as the security of patients, the operating theatre director ensures compliance with the health and safety standards in force and supervises the coordination of material and human resources within the operating theatre.
The operating theatre director is also a manager and a team leader; patron of the operating theatre charter and service strategy. Involved in improving the theatre’s efficiency, they work closely with the surgical team and anaesthetists.
The operating theatre director is the interface between the medical and paramedical teams.

Trained in theatre nursing (IBODE or IADE qualification), operating theatre directors must be as rigorous as they are organised. Highly reactive and with strong decision-making skills, they also express themselves through their managerial capacity and ability to lead projects. An operating theatre director appreciates heading up, and working as, a team, has strong people skills and knows how to delegate.
