The job of a Human Resources director
The Human Resources (HR) director is responsible for implementing the facility’s HR policy and for managing staff and payroll. They are the go-to person for heads of department and contribute to developing a positive workplace climate. The HR director determines needs by taking into account the prerequisite for quality care and proposes strategies for allocating Human Resources, for recruiting and for retaining staff. Heavily involved in initiatives to improve the quality of work life for employees, the HR manager also oversees proper dialogue with employee representative bodies.
The scope and content of what is expected of an HR director, as well as the number of staff they have to manage, vary in accordance with the size of the healthcare facility in which they work.
What skills are required?
With a degree in law and/or Human Resources, the HR director must demonstrate solid interpersonal skills, have a strong sense of responsibility and be flexible in their organisation. The HR director knows how to analyse, to listen and to anticipate in order to prioritise departmental and staff needs.
On a day-to-day basis, the HR director heads up and motivates their own team.
