The job of a facility director

The main tasks of the facility director include establishing and managing the facility’s overall policy, and coordinating and monitoring its strategic direction.

Consequently, the facility director develops and drives the facility’s strategy, taking into account each department’s requirements in the interests of respecting quality of care and financial obligations. They pilot all the major milestones in the life of a clinic (e.g. certifications ), as such, essentially outlining the quality assurance programme.

The facility director must also anticipate any future constraints and adapt the organisation accordingly, as well as identify and put into perspective new business development opportunities.

Guarantor of the safety of all those within the facility and the harmonious organisation of its departments, the facility director is also at the crux of multidisciplinary exchanges and represents the clinic before trustees.

What skills are required?

Facility directors set themselves apart by dint of their strong business, financial, organisational, quality and leadership skills.

Possessing a strong work ethic, demanding, and fair but diplomatic in their dealings, the facility director must be permanently available for the team and demonstrate strong listening skills. Up to date with technical, social, regulatory and legal requirements, the facility director possesses an exceptional ability to anticipate and adapt. Leading and motivating not just their own team, but all others in the facility too, the facility director is a veritable bandleader.
